Highschooler steps up for a great cause

http://www.wwmt.com//news/features/michigan/stories/high-school-freshman-organizes-fundraiser-teammate-87.shtml

13-year-old David Cairns was diagnosed with a rare nerve disorder just a few months ago, forcing the young athlete to give up sports. So his friend maddy steps up and has an ice fishing tournament to raise money for David, Hoping to raise money to get him the tools and machines he needs to get back to where he used to be. Fishing tournament alone they raised 3,200, which is truly amazing.
this is wonderful, if everyone would step up and fundraise like this, America would be a better place. Especially when this hits so close to home, maybe my school could chip In or we could do something like this for students that need help around our community, ice fishing tournament would be perfect. I hope the best for David and maybe one day he will return to playing the sports he loves.

No more BBQ?

http://www.wwmt.com//news/features/health/stories/study-barbequed-meat-could-speed-up-dementia-595.shtml
Scientist are now saying that browning your meat releases an enzyme that can now lead to damage in the Brain at an early age. This actually makes me mad because the end it says "nobody should throw their grills away just yet" okay then why say anything about it, now people are going to freak out about it and start spreading crazy rumors, I feel like if it hasn't already effected anyone then why link it with such a silly thing. Although I'm interested to see what comes of this so I will follow this story. My family grills a whole lot and this would be strange if it was no more.

An 85 year old nun sentenced to prison

www.cnn.com/2014/02/18/justice/tennessee-nun-sentenced/index.html?hpt=us_c2

An 84-year-old nun was sentenced to 35 months in prison Tuesday for breaking into a nuclear facility, her lawyer said. The incident began before dawn on July 28, 2012, when the three cut through a chain-link fence surrounding the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This is the exact opposite of what people would think about a typical nun, and an 85 year old for that. I really wonder why she needed these weapons. And i wonder how the poor old woman is going to do in prison for 35 months, i'm soo suprises this woman cut through 3 feet of fence and walked over a mile to get to her destination. This woman caused more than $1,000 in federal property damage.

Woman kills her friend and then cuts a baby from the womb

http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/18/justice/massachusetts-sentence/index.html?hpt=ju_c2

A Massachusetts woman found guilty in the first-degree murder of her pregnant friend has been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, according to Worcester Superior Court. This is absolutely disgusting, she killed a woman for her baby.. all the children without homes in this world and she chooses to take someones life over it. Then this woman tried to play it off like it was her child, she was 35 at the time in 2009. And the woman murdered was only 23 years old and 8 months pregnant. It's probably the most horrific case this office has seen," said Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. I cannot believe this story and i'm so glad the woman was caught. I hate to say it but she does deserve the death penalty, although i sincerely hope that the baby has her mothers family left so they can take care of her and give her a happy, healthy life.
RIP to this woman, i hope the best for her family.

Is negro an appropriate way to refer to biracial people?

http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/19/living/biracial-black-identity-answers/index.html?hpt=li_c2

This article is about when the census listed Negro as a race option in 2010 and how people feel about it now. Most of the elderly think the negro is the proper and the appropriate way to refer to that race, but this generation that is unheard of. Readers also reject the term African American, the consider it inaccurate and awkward. This is absurd i feel that it should remain to be known as colored, that's not offensive and that's also not stating that they are from Africa or saying that they are some other kind of mix. This world is all about equality and yet people can go on and on about something as simple as mixed, colored or negro. I honestly didn't think this stuff was still a problem because that didn't happen around my high school. I would imagine this is at schools that are primarily white or a race other than, "black". It also surprises me that this is from new york, they seem quite intertwined with different races.

Flappy Bird Fallout

http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303874504579376323271110900

This game called flappy bird on the app store was deleted because it was too addictive and players considered the creator to be "Satan". Creator, Mr dong says i didn't intend for people to sit and play for hours, his personal score is only 150. due to the obsession people are willing to pay 134,000 to buy a phone with the app still on it. Mr. Dong said he spent three days developing "Flappy Bird." It employs a distinctive retro style that he claims goes along with the way he was raised, life isnt always easy "It is pure. It is all about the game, not about the ornamentation or decoration," he said.I feel this is absolutely insane to pay that much for a game that was once free. I personally have played and yes it is very very frustrating, and rather addicting but it sure is not worth that money. This poor man who created the game now cant even walk through his neighborhood without being pestered. This is exactly whats wrong with America, its okay to not worry about actual issues but once a game gets deleted off an app store people go crazy. Although mr dong has been harrassed he still feels confident to keep creating games and now peoples attention is on his other games called "Ninjas Assault" and "Droplet Shuffle.

Cyber Bullying

http://www.mlive.com/news/jackson/index.ssf/2014/02/cyberbullying_hurting_more_jac.html

In Jackson county cyber bullying on social media, such as Facebook and twitter is becoming a problem now for even the middle school students. This is much more serious then how "bullying" used to be, Its way more damaging. M live states that 38% of seventh grade students have read a rumor or sent a message about someone within the past year. I believe That this is absurd, the problem comes from the parents at first, you don't give a child a iPhone or a laptop to be unsupervised, you have no idea who they are contacting and what they are doing. With the amount of apps and secret websites out, its never safe, especially so a young teen. I thought bullying was illegal, this doesn't make sense to me that its okay for this to keep going on and the police just sit back and take stats on the percentage of bullying happening.
